Swindon Crown Court Swindon Crown Court

A MAN has been remanded in custody accused of arranging a sham wedding in Swindon.

Mukash Kumar is accused of attempting to marry a European Union citizen and making a false declaration under oath.

The 28-year-old is said to have committed the two offences at the Swindon register office last month.

Kumar, of Birmingham, is also accused of entering the United Kingdom unlawfully in August 2008.

No charges were formally put to him during a brief hearing at Swindon Crown Court and he did not enter any pleas.

Judge Euan Ambrose adjourned the case to Friday, April 19 and remanded Kumar, who needed a Hindi interpreter, into custody until then.
