The organisers of Marlborough’s LitFest are celebrating after the not-for-profit organisation was awarded charitable status.

LitFest chairman Mavis Cheek said: “The Marlborough Literature Festival was founded three years ago to counter some of the more celebrity-conscious festivals and we undertake to arrange an annual programme that reflects our commitment to excellent writing and authors in all genres.

“We are firmly established as one of the few literature festivals which invites both well-known and new authors to take part in our weekend celebration of all that is good in the world of writing.”

The line-up for this year’s LitFest, which takes place between September 27 and 29, is yet to be announced.
