Members of the public and staff at Bradford on Avon swimming pool will undergo a 24-hour swim on Thursday to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice.

This is the second year the event has taken place in memory of John Angell, a car salesman from Hilperton, who died of cancer in August 2011.

His wife Kerena Angell, who swam at the leisure centre daily with Mr Angell, and their two sons JJ, 25, and Jamie, 28, are also taking part in the relay swim which finishes on Friday at 6pm.

Mrs Angell said: “I find swimming therapeutic and attend every day but it is still hard to get in the pool. I am so touched and grateful for the staff’s support and would not be doing as well as I am if it wasn’t for them.”

Mrs Angell was approached by the staff last year who wanted to raise money for Dorothy House and together they raised just over £1,300 in last year’s swim.

“Johnny was incredibly fit and healthy so you never know when you might need them (Dorothy House).”

Collection buckets will be at the swimming pool and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/bradford-swimming-pool
