Police in the sector that covers Devizes, Marlborough and Pewsey have given a cautious welcome to figures that there was no recorded instances of violent crime between February 9 and 15.
Inspector Matt Armstrong said they indicated the success of local policing policy, though he was aware there may be incidents that have not been reported to officers.
He said: “This is a combination of effective policing, partnership engagement and the general good behaviour of the public. I have never in my career known an area not to have one or two instances of violent crime.
“We are seeing an overall reduction in violent crime across the county but it is very unusual to have none at all. It should be celebrated. It means fewer victims and less drain on our resources.”
