Flog It! star Paul Martin cut the cake to celebrate the first birthday of the Townsend Barn Nursery in Poulshot which his own two children attend.

Mr Martin, who lives at Seend Cleeve, has been a supporter of the nursery school set up by Caroline and Jim Nichols since it opened in January last year. Mr and Mrs Nichols delayed the birthday celebrations until the weather improved.

Mrs Nichols said: “We had a wonderful day and the weather was great. We had party games, dancing and singing before Paul cut the cake, which was in the shape of a barn owl.

“We are delighted with the way the nursery has grown. We now have over 70 children on our books and we have had to expand into another part of the building.”

The nursery school is on the site of a previous nursery school which closed 20 years ago. The buildings had been in use for small local businesses.
