Caterers Della and Stephen Moran are reopening their popular Marlborough restaurant.

The couple closed Moran’s in London Road in 2000 when it was discovered that Mrs Moran, 51, had cancer. Since her recovery they have concentrated on their outside catering business.

But work is now underway to bring back the restaurant – but this time they are created more laid-back vibe.

Mrs Moran said: “We kept the restaurant because we always felt it was something we would want to go back to and when we lost my mum in August we felt it was time to re-establish it.

“We both love Australia and New Zealand and eating there has a much more relaxed vibe and we want to create that here.

“Before I would have described it as a posh, smart restaurant but now we want it to be more relaxed.

“We’re looking at putting on a dining club every month with some old Moran’s favourites because we’ve already had requests for food we served 15 years ago.

“We also want to hold book club evenings, floristry demonstrations, wine tasting and cookery demonstrations.”

The couple have dubbed their new venture “the Moran’s last fling” and they have some new tasty treats up their sleeves including green herb pancakes and slow-cooked pork with gooseberry and elderflower relish.

Mrs Moran said: “There will be no set menus, they’ll keep changing and we want to employ local staff and use local produce.”

Already passers-by have been popping into the restaurant to ask when they will be able to get a coffee but eager diners will have to wait until it reopens on Friday, May 31.
