Help sought to monitor Devizes youth Bluez ‘N’ Zuz disco

Devizes Police Inspector Matt Armstrong is appealing to the public to help run the Bluez ‘N’ Zuz discos in the Corn Exchange.
The popular discos were set up by the police and are for young people in school Years 7 to 11. They are typically attended by between 50 and 80 children from Devizes and surrounding villages.
The discos are staffed by four or five police officers, Police Community Support Officers or Special Constables, but Insp Armstrong said he cannot justify using such a high number of officers and wants them to be doing police work.
He said: “I need to balance my priorities. The discos are a valuable event for young people and we are committed to making them a continued success but we need help.
“The discos can tie up four or five members of my staff and if they are there for three hours then they are not concentrating on the priorities of the community.
“The discos will not be stopped on my say-so. We will always have a warranted officer at the discos but we would like people to volunteer – maybe there are parents and teachers who would be willing to give up their time to help.”
Anyone who wants to volunteer can email devizesnpt@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk
