Coate woman crawls in agony after being run over by her own quad bike
A 62-year-old woman from Coate, near Devizes, crawled in agony for nearly two hours to raise the alarm after she was run over by her quad bike.
The incident took place at on Sunday afternoon after the woman, who has not been named, was working on her land.
She is understood to have been reversing the bike when she fell off and the machine rolled across her back. Without a mobile phone, she had to crawl home to raise the alarm. It took her two hours.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance reached her at the same time as the road ambulance that had also been summoned. Air paramedic Richard Miller said: “She had been through quite an ordeal. She was very cold and in great pain. She had suffered back, neck and abdominal injuries.
“We gave her medication to reverse the pain and flew her to Frenchay Hospital where she had a CT scan. We don’t know the outcome of that.
“The lady lives on her own so there was no one around who would have known she was missing. She is very lucky to be alive considering how cold the weather was on Sunday.”
Frenchay Hospital has a major trauma unit and casualties of serious road traffic collisions are often taken their if their injuries are considered to be life-threatening or life changing.
