Two Palestinians will be coming to Bradford on Avon to help it celebrate 10 years of being a Fairtrade town.
Abu Rafat, an olive farmer from the West Bank, and Manal Abdallah, his interpreter, will be on the Zaytoun stall at the Fairtrade fair in Lamb’s Yard tomorrow from 1.30-3.30pm.
Mr Rafat is one of 26 organic farmers who belong to the Palestinian FairTrade Association which produces the very first olive oil to be certified as Fairly Traded.
He said: “If I build a future for my children, then this will be the highest form of resistance I can offer right now.”
The Palestinians will be guests of honour and speakers at St Margaret’s Hall in the evening from 7-9.30pm where there will be a Middle Eastern vegetarian buffet and music from the band Blake.
Mr Rafat only arrived in the UK this week, after a last-minute visa issue was resolved so he could travel.
Tickets for the evening, £10 each, £20 for a family of four and £5 for students, are on sale at Ex Libris book shop in The Shambles and will be available on the door.
