Transport volunteers are sought

Melksham Transport Link needs volunteers to help organise transport for elderly and vulnerable people.
The charity is short of people to arrange its cars, following a resignation, and has appealed for new members.
Transport liaison officer Sue Grice said: “We need coordinators; the people who make the calls and take the requests from clients, and arrange available drivers.
“We take around 280 trips a month, which each takes about three phone calls to arrange, and we desperately need more people, or the system will collapse.”
The charity, funded by donations, provides medical trips in the Melksham area.
Ms Grice said: “We try to answer the phones between 9am and 10.30am, then we have an answer phone message until 5pm. We ask clients to phone as soon as they have an appointment.
“We don’t pay the drivers any wages, we just give them petrol money, as their time is purely voluntary and they use their own cars.”
