A DOG’S LIFE Sophie Uzzell, 11, with Billy a Staffie cross puppy at the Dogs Trust, who happily has found his new home and is heading off to pastures new.
A YOUNG girl from Swindon is one of five children to have been awarded the title of Junior Canine Carer by Dogs Trust.
The charity has announced the winners of its photography competition in which five junior stars have been chosen to help care for the dogs at its rehoming centres.
Children aged seven to 14 were asked to take a picture that captured a dog’s dog.
Sophie Uzzell, 11, beat off competition from more than 200 entries to win a day at Dogs Trust Newbury and a goody bag of prizes.
Charlotte Peters, Dogs Trust education officer, said: “Sophie’s entry stood out for the way it captured the emotion in the puppy’s eyes.
“It was clear this was a little pooch that enjoyed being the centre of attention. So many children entered the Junior Canine Carer competition but it is clear to see why Sophie’s entry was one of the winners.
“We both had a great day at Dogs Trust Newbury and I think Sophie made a number of new friends, including Riley and Billy.
“By being a Junior Canine Carer for a day she got a real sense of responsibility and hopefully left knowing he’s made a difference to the dogs in our care – Doug the Bischon was certainly grateful for his bath.”
Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, launched the competition in partnership with Pentax to give five dog enthusiasts the chance to win a behind the scenes tour of a rehoming centre and be part of the charity’s canine carer team for a day.
