A Mercury nominated singer-songwriter turned children’s author closed Westwood with Iford Primary School’s sponsored reading week last Friday.
Lou Rhodes, from Brad-ford on Avon, read extracts from her new picture book The Phlunk and signed copies for pupils.
The children from reception to Year Six told her their experiences of reading during the sponsored reading week, which occurred in half term and was opened by fellow children’s author Martin Coleman from Chippenham.
Ms Rhodes said: “The younger children asked me questions about The Phlunk, and I talked to the older children about the process of writing.”
The musically inspired follow-up, The Phlunk’s World-wide Symphony, will be available in the summer. Ms Rhodes has been in the music duo LAMB since 1996 and her debut solo album Beloved One was shortlisted for a Mercury Music Prize in 2006.
The school library was finished in November and donations of children’s books are welcome to fill shelves before an official opening.
