A teenage single mother-of-two assaulted two police officers during a night out in Melksham.

Jessica Mary Joyce, 19, of Portman Road, was ordered to pay £350 compensation after pleading guilty to the assaults on January 18 at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

The court was told a large group of people were spilling out of Buds bar at Lowbourne at 9.55pm. PC Dalton was trying to keep two factions apart, to prevent violence, when Joyce kicked out, hitting PCSO Ledbury twice in the stomach and PC Dalton in the shins.

Prosecutor Nick Barr said Joyce was so violent on the way to the cells she had to be given leg restraints.

Terry McCarthy, defending, said the incident happened because her friend had been assaulted. He said Joyce had no previous convictions and the officers had no obvious injuries.

Joyce must pay £200 to PCSO Ledbury and £150 to PC Dalton.
