More families in need will receive aid thanks to Pewsey Scouts’ fundraising efforts.

The Scouts handed over a cheque for £620 to Shelterbox first responder Tom Kinderman at the end of February after a sponsored bike ride.

The charity delivers emergency shelters to people affected by disaster worldwide.

Youngsters aged between 10 and 14 cycled five miles up and down Grand Avenue in Savernake Forest to raise funds after Mr Kinderman spoke to the group about Shelterbox early last year.

Scout leader Cathy Lang said: “The children have learnt about different countries and what a family would need in various disasters.

“They had to do their own research and they had to build their own shelters, so they really had to think about what they would need and where to start. They learnt an awful lot.”

The Scouts have now been given two unique Shelterbox numbers so they can track their box online and see where it has been sent.
