Pewsey affordable housing call in petition

A petition has been started to get affordable housing built in and around Pewsey.

It was set up by Pewsey resident Sylvie Clayden, who will present it to Wiltshire Council’s planning committee when it considers an application to build ten houses next to Swan Meadow.

When the application was considered by Pewsey Parish Council, it expressed concerned at the lack of provision for affordable housing in the area and this was one of its reasons for strongly opposing the development.

Mrs Clayden said: “I want to present it to the council so they can see that people in Pewsey don’t want more expensive developments like this one.

“Pewsey has a strong and integrated community, so to consider executive houses like this is ridiculous when what we need is affordable housing for our existing residents.”

The petition will be in the Spar store on North Street until the end of the month.

Store manager Susan Connolly said: “Spar is supporting the latest local campaign and people can come in and sign the petition until it is taken away.”

Mrs Clayden said: “The Spar store is a really great community shop and has been a great help with this and many other things going on in the area.”
