Support in Malmesbury for any parents on their own

Plans are in the making for a support group to bring single parents in Malmesbury together, thanks to mother-of-three Sara Bull.

Ms Bull, her husband and their children Abbie, eight, Ollie, seven and Ben, three, moved to the area for his job. But when their marriage broke down she decided she had to take action after she found there was virtually no support for single parents.

She set up the first Gingerbread Malmesbury support group for single-parent families.

Gingerbread groups are run by volunteers and allow people in similar situations to share experiences, make friends and support each other.

They aim to reduce feelings of isolation and help single parents deal with some of the issues they face, as well as offering a chance to relax.

The new group will run on one Saturday a fortnight at the Children’s Centre, Malmesbury C of E Primary School.

By running the group on a Saturday, Ms Bull hopes it will be available to working parents, and fathers who may have contact with their children at weekends. She also hopes to plan family days out and gatherings for the adults.

She will invite visitors to the group from organisations who can offer help and advice about some of the issues single parents face.

The Saturday morning sessions will begin with a launch party after Easter. See ginger breadmalmesbury.weebly.com
