A Trowbridge woman got a perfect Mother’s Day treat when she came home from hospital with her newborn baby on Sunday.
Wedding fair planner Steph Pearce, 30, gave birth to 11lbs and 11oz Bronson Dave Wiltshire at Trow-bridge Birthing Centre at 5.35pm on Wednesday.
But both encountered complications, due to his size, and were taken to Royal United Hospital in Bath.
They were released on Mother’s Day, for a reunion with father Dave Wiltshire, 30, and one-year-old Harlun.
Miss Pearce, of Parklands, said: “It was a perfect day. To come home on Mother’s Day was just amazing and I was so pleased.
“Harlun was great too, he had some chocolates for me, which was so lovely.”
Miss Pearce and her newborn are both fully recovered and enjoying spending time at home with their family.
She said: “It was nice to be home and just being able to be a mum again was great.
“In my pregnancy, I did suffer with quite a bit of back pain and I assumed that was from picking Harlun up, but now I think we know why that was.”
The couple, together for four years, paid tribute to the midwives and medical staff who supported them in both Trowbridge and Bath.
Miss Pearce said: “Trowbridge were amazing. They held themselves together and didn’t stress or anything, which stopped me from panicking.
“I want to say a special thank you to Kirsty MacPhail, the midwife who delivered my baby. She was so good to us.”
The Trowbridge staff were pleased to hear Miss Pearce and Bronson got home in time for Mother’s Day.
Matron Beryl Orchard said: “A baby of this size is certainly very unusual. I think it just goes to show that the size of a baby cannot always be predicted by midwives or mothers.
“The midwives at the birthing centre are extremely competent and highly trained, so can deal with any emergency.
“I’d like to praise all my team for how well they handled the situation.”
Mr Wiltshire is on paternity leave from Valldata, in Melksham.
Miss Pearce plans to take it easy, except for staging a wedding fair at Melksham Assembly Hall on March 24.
