Police are appealing for witnesses after an accident which saw a 77-year-old woman killed at Langley Burrell, near Chippenham, on Friday.

A lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the woman, initially thought to be in her fifties, was killed.

Police were called to the incident involving a blue Kia Rio and a white Ford Iveco on the B4069 at Langley Burrell, in Chippenham at 2.15pm.

Officers tried to resuscitate the driver of the Kia, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Great Western Ambulance service said: “We were called at 2.10pm to a collision involving a car and a lorry.

“Two rapid response units attended and an ambulance was going to attend but when the first paramedic attended and sadly told us that the lady had died the ambulance was no longer needed.”

The 56-year-old lorry driver from Gloucestershire suffered minor injuries.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident and the road was closed off for eight hours while police investigations took place.
