A campaign to recruit more volunteers to help at Cedar Court Day Centre, Bradford on Avon, has been successful in attracting three helpers.

Organiser Helen Sheppard said: “It was thanks to posters in local supermarkets and surgeries, as well a piece in the Wiltshire Times. It’s really great to have more pairs of hands and members really appreciate the time and effort the volunteers put in.”

The mayor of Bradford on Avon, John Potter, who visited for tea and cake in celebration of the birthdays of members Peggy Mansbridge and Pat Hidvegi, said: “It’s a brilliant way of getting older people together to meet and talk and share a meal. With the rapid rise in the over-85s in the community, it’s a real help to those who aren’t able to get out much.”

The centre is open every Monday at Cedar Court. For details, or to volunteer, call 01225 765872.
