Funeral director Paul McDonald, of CS Bowyer in Bradford on Avon, is ready to take on 50 good deeds in 50 days to celebrate his own half-century, but now wants nominations and volunteers
A funeral director from Bradford on Avon has embraced a milestone birthday by taking on 50 good deeds in 50 days.
Paul McDonald, who turned 50 in September, wanted to celebrate by giving something back to the community, but waited until the weather would allow for a range of tasks.
Mr McDonald, of CS Bowyer, and colleagues are encouraging people to nominate causes or people in need of a helping hand.
He said: “While we are not going to be able to rebuild a house or redecorate a whole school in 50 days, like they do on the telly, I am hoping there will be certain tasks that can be done which will make life easier for people.
Mr McDonald has had requests to remove an old trampoline from a garden and to fix a fence, but nominations can range from people needing help with shopping, or a school or church looking for volunteers, to a charity needing help with fundraising.
He said: “The line of work we do helped us come up with the idea. In times of need, some people have family who live further afield and have little jobs that need doing.”
The 50 tasks will be chosen for Mr McDonald, who hopes to bring a greater community spirit to town.
He is appealing for 49 volunteers to help him complete his challenges.
Mr McDonald said: “If it is a big task and gets people on board, we’ll do it.”
He will start on April 2. Volunteers can contact CS Bowyer branches in Bradford on Avon or Trow-bridge, or call 01225 863208. Ideas can be left there, too.
