Supermarket chain Morrisons is refusing to comment on plans to open a convenience store in Marlborough despite advertising for staff on its website.

In February the retailer announced its intention to open at least 70 Morrisons M local stores by the end of 2013, starting with London and the South East.

In recent months the company has purchased six HMV stores 49 former Blockbuster branches and seven former Jessops stores to convert into its M local format and offered its colleagues a £500 finder’s fee if they find convenience properties for Morrisons that are subsequently opened.

Now the supermarket chain is advertising team leader jobs at its Marlborough store on its website.

The advert reads: “We are currently recruiting for Team Leader's to work in our M local Store based at Marlborough, as part of our exciting growth plan within the Convenience Market.

"Over the past 18 months we have developed the M local concept and have now opened 14 convenience stores.”

But when asked where and when the company plans to open this store a spokesman said: “We don’t comment on speculation around acquisition.”
