Brush off your walking boots, grab your glow sticks and load up your picnic baskets in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care this summer.

The charity's annual Walk Ten event will this year be held at the Badminton Estate on Saturday August 31.

Walk Ten is a sponsored twilight 10K walk through the deer park and woodland, home to the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort and the home of the world famous horse trials, followed by an after dark picnic as live music and entertainment play on through the night, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display at 10pm to mark the time Marie Curie nurses begin this shift, going into the homes of terminally ill patients to provide care for them and their families throughout the night.

Walk Ten Badminton is supported by Homeserve and Breeze FM and for any eager walker who signs up before June 30 they will be included into a prize draw to win their delicious picnic on the night, courtesy of Papadeli and the Organic Hamper Company.

Jadie Myatt has been working as a stable groom at the Badminton Estate since 2012 and her grandmother, Myrtle Black, was cared for by a Marie Curie nurse.

“My grandmother had a week's care with a Marie Curie nurse in March this year. The brilliant care the nurse provided helped my nan, and the whole family, during the difficult time we were all going though.

"Along with Playboy the horse I’d encourage everyone to come down to Badminton this summer and support the Marie Curie nurses.”

The event organiser, Matt Carruthers, said: “We are so lucky to acquire the normally private estate of Badminton for Walk Ten. It’s going to be a magical night full of music, entertainment and great local tasty food.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to get fit, celebrate summer and the work of Marie Curie nurses throughout Wiltshire.”

The walk is for all ages, under 16s walk for free and everyone who takes part in Walk Ten will receive a Walk Ten T-Shirt to wear on the night. It’s a dog friendly event so four legged friends are welcome too.

All money raised will support the work of Marie Curie nurses, like Catherine Le Roy, who provide end of life care in the homes of patients with cancer and other illnesses as well as support to their families during this difficult time throughout Wiltshire and the South West.
