IDEAS for potential uses of a decommissioned red telephone box in Highbury Park, Warminster, are being sought by Warminster Town Council.

A member of the public had requested that the council adopt the kiosk and possibly use it as a noticeboard.

BT is selling its red kiosks, recognised as an iconic British design, to parish and town councils for a nominal fee of £1, provided the community takes on their upkeep.

The town development committee considered the proposal at a meeting, but was unsure about the amount its maintenance would cost.

Councillor Paul MacDonald proposed that the public be asked for imaginative uses of the kiosk, with ideas debated at a future meeting. There was unanimous support for the proposal.
