More than 300 schoolchildren waving banners brought Cricklade High Street to a standstill today during a protest about the proposed closure of the town's leisure centre.
Armed with a loudhailer and plenty of energy, pupils from St Sampson's Church of England Junior School marched with teachers, parents and other residents from the school in Bath Road to the centre of town.
Police closed the road for half an hour while the children chanted the refrain, "What do we want, save our leisure centre, when do we want it, now" until they were blue in the face.
Mother of two Annabel Wallis, 34, from Cricklade, said: "I am supporting the march because many families use the centre. It is one of the main reasons I moved here."
St Sampson's head Andrew Henstridge said: "I am very proud of all the children. They put on a really good show of support today."
