Devizes MP Claire Perry has welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement on online child protection today.

In her role as adviser on the commercialisation and sexualisation of cchildhood, Claire Perry MP, accompanied David Cameron to meet NSPCC representatives and he then announced a package of measures to help protect children online.

The Prime Minister made clear the Government’s position on tackling child abuse imagery on the internet, giving search engines until October to take a proactive approach to removing illegal content, before considering legislation.

He also announced the agreement of internet service providers to provide all customers with an unavoidable choice to install network level family friendly filters.

These will prevent children from accessing inappropriate content on internet-enabled devices in the home, with access outside of the home being addressed by the introduction of 'clean' public wi-fi next month.

Mrs Perry said: "This package of measures represents a comprehensive and pragmatic approach to tackling the key issues which threaten the safety of our children online.

"Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet to ensure our children are protected, but I think the measures announced by the Prime Minister today will give parents confidence that they have easy-to-use tools at their disposal to ensure that their children are not exposed to harmful material, and that industry and other related agencies are doing their bit too.”
