The two young grandsons of Devizes cancer victim Ron Nicholls are undertaking a 163-mile cycle ride to raise money in his memory.

Sam Buck, 13, and his 11-year-old brother Joseph, from Rowde, will be cycling with their mum Tara along the length of the Wiltshire Cycleway next month in aid of the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that can be contracted from breathing in asbestos fibres and it is thought this is what happened to Mr Nicholls while he was working for two Devizes building firms during the 1970s.

Sam and Joseph set out on September 14, taking five days to complete the 163 miles. They will stop off at various places on the way, ending at Bradford on Avon.

Joseph said: “We will be camping at Mere, but all the other nights we will be staying with friends or relatives.”
