Chippenham pupil steps in to stop Les Mis from being less miserable
HARDENHUISH School pupil Theo Walker is coming to the rescue of a production of Les Miserables in Trowbridge after a key performer dropped out.
Theo , 16, of Marshfield Road, Chippenham, auditioned for the role of Jean Valjean three weeks later than the cast because the original actor dropped out.
Theo said: “I was both excited and scared when I was selected to play Jean Valjean as there has been so much to learn but I have had amazing support from the cast and the directors.
“I hope I have caught up. It has been a brilliant experience to be a part of such a professional production.”
Just before Theo auditioned he passed his grade six singing exam with distinction, which included the Les Miserables song Empty Chairs and Empty Tables. He sang this, along with three other songs at the audition.
He said: “I watched the film before the audition but all of the songs are classics."
He will receive his GCSE results tomorrow but is already heading off to Bath College to study performing arts in September. He also has a place at Bath Academy of Musical Theatre which he will attend two evenings a week.
“I am really excited. I have always loved performing arts. When I started doing drama at school I enjoyed it more than anything else”, he said.
The production is being staged by Trowbridge Youth Theatre and is directed by Matt Heaton and musical director Peter Finch.
The cast of 35 have been working on 30 songs over a ten week period and will perform with a ten-piece orchestra. They will take part in four performances; tonight, Friday and Saturday evening, as well as a Saturday matinee performance.
