Swindon GCSE 2013: Record results for Lydiard Park Academy
STAFF and students have been celebrating record GCSE results for a fourth year running.
Headteacher Clive Zimmerman said 60 per cent of students achieved five or more A* to C grades, including English and Maths, up four per cent on last year’s grades.
He was doubly anxious ahead of this morning with his daughter also expecting her GCSE results, but it was relief all round.
“We are absolutely delighted, because the results have gone up significantly this year for the fourth year running,” he said.
“We weren’t expecting it given what has been in the media, but this year group have been fantastic and they have achieved the best grades.
“What is also really pleasing is in the news they said there was a drop in the number of As and A* but we have had the best we have ever had.
“I think I was more nervous than some of the children but when you find out the results and they are good it is a big relief.”
Ben White, 16, of Freshbrook, David Howard, 16, of Westlea and Edwards Maynard, 16, of Freshbrook, were all smiles yesterday after opening their results and gaining 10 As and three A*s between them.
Ben said: “I think we’re all pretty pleased.
“I wasn’t nervous before because it is just something that is done and you couldn’t change it.
“I think it is nice coming into the school to get your results because your friends are there and they are there to be supportive.”
It was not only year 11s receiving good news there were many from lower years also picking up results after taking them early.
Nicole Stewart, 14, of Freshbrook, took some of her exams two years early and gained an A grade in Biology.
She said: “I think it is a good idea to be able to do some GCSE’s early because it means I am able to do more and not affect my choices.
“It is quite scary getting the results but I did work quite hard for them and I am pleased with what I got.”
