It’s fun for all at a big celebration

PEPPA Pig and Fireman Sam were among the guests at a community party in Toothill today.
Hundreds of families flocked to the Community Centre, in Dunwich Drive, to enjoy the activities and entertainments put on by the Toothill Big Local Partnership Committee with the help of a £1m Lottery grant.
There was face-painting, candy floss, popcorn, a hog roast and a surf simulator as well as a bouncy castle, a disco and live music from Stevie G and the Band and Jack Woodger and his band.
The day also marked the start of the Images of Toothill photography competition, which closes on September 30. The 12 winning entries will feature in the Toothill Big Local 2014 Calender.
Kareen Boyd, chairman of the Toothill Big Local Partnership Committee, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity and what we’re doing is raising awareness of the formal process. Our target is to be open for bids in September when receipt, assessment, decision and monitoring of funding bids will be managed by the committee in the context of regular formal meetings.”
Toothill was one among 150 communities around the UK awarded grants to be spent on projects that were not statutory requirements. The money could go towards children’s groups, coffee mornings, community gatherings or any other community initiative.
The Toothill Big Local Bid Process kicks off in September.
People can bid for up to £500, and more information will be available at the Bid Training Sessions at the Toothill Community Centre on September 24 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, October 2 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and on October 10 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
