Television antiques expert Hilary Kay rescued Westwood Flower and Vegetable Show’s finale by stepping in after the original prize giver fell ill.
Mrs Kay, a regular on the Antiques Roadshow, had been visiting the show, at Westwood Manor, when Vivian Hancock, the village resident due to be hand out the awards, had to step down at the last minute.
Show committee member Evelyn Wildy said: “We were very lucky. She was such a nice person.
“The show went extremely well and was very well attended.
“Younger people are taking over and giving new ideas, which is good because there are a lot of young families in the village.”
The show blossomed again this year, pulling in 700 people compared with the 300 during a damp spell in 2012. Show categories, included crafts and photography and visitors could take part in a plant swap. Bratton Brass Band provided the musical entertainment.
