New Marlborough gym fits the bill

STRENGTHENING coach Steven York thought Marlborough was in need of a top–quality gym so he created his own – Marlborough Fitness and Performance Centre.
The gym, in Elm Tree Park, Manton, opened 10 weeks ago and will officially launch on September 26 at 7pm.
It is kitted out with the high-quality weights and cardiovascular machines that Mr York, 47, says he will regularly replace to make sure members get the best work out possible.
Mr York, who has been a strengthening coach for 15 years, said: “People in Marlborough deserve the best gym but there isn’t a well-equipped gym for miles around, and to progress with your training you need a better facility and equipment.
“For me it’s not all about money, it’s about reinvesting in new equipment so members get the most out of coming here.
“I used to play football and cricket so I know the importance of building up your strength, even if it’s just for recreational sport.
“It’s when people stop training for a couple of months that they notice the difference and that almost pushes them back into training.”
The gym also offers personal training sessions with one of its qualified instructors.
Mr York said: “The difference with this gym is that there is always someone about so if you need some guidance you can just ask.
“So far the response has been really good but it’s just about letting people know we’re here.
“When you go to other gyms everything is crammed in and you can’t move without banging your leg but it isn’t like that here.
“If you ask the members they will tell you what a difference it makes having somewhere to train that is properly kitted out.
“It’s just about helping people out.”
