Hit heights for GWH

IF YOU’RE looking to do something different to celebrate Christmas this year, the Great Western Hospital may have the answer for you.
Why not dress up as your favourite festive character and abseil off the roof of the hospital down a 90ft drop, all while raising money for a good cause.
The GWH’s Brighter Futures Appeal has teamed up with Action for Children to host the Santa Abseil on December 7 and 8.
They are hoping 130 people will take part in the event to raise at least £22,000 to be split between the two causes.
The money raised for the GWH will go towards the new children’s Emergency Department which is currently being built.
Last month the Adver launched an appeal called ‘Making it Better’, to help buy the little extras which will help put children at ease, including iPads, toys and a refreshment stand. The department cannot afford these items with its NHS budget alone.
Thanks to our appeal, as well as a charity abseil in May and a sponsored cycle ride which is currently taking place, the GWH has been delighted to have received more than £11,000 – just over half of the target.
Fundraising manager Hannah Persaud said: “Challenge yourself to reach new heights in support of children throughout Wiltshire and the South West and get on Santa’s good deed list.
“All you have to do is dress as Santa, or any one of your favourite festive characters and abseil 90ft from the roof of the Great Western Hospital.
“A prize will be awarded for the most festive outfit and no experience is needed as professional instruction and equipment is provided on the day.
“Anyone over 14 who can take part in the thrill of this adrenaline fuelled challenge – abseil why not challenge your colleagues, family and friends to join you and make up a complete Santa team?”
If you want to take part, fill in a form from the GWH or the Swindon Advertiser reception, and return it to the hospital with a £15 deposit to secure your place.
You will then be sent a Santa Abseil pack containing all the abseil and fundraising information you need.
If you would like to support the children’s Emergency Department at the GWH, visit the Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/GWH-ED-Appeal or text GWED50 with your amount to 70070. People can also claim gift aid at no extra cost.
Alternatively, donate by cheque, make a donation in person at the cashiers office on the ground floor, or email or call the fundraising manager Hannah Persaud to talk about other ways to fundraise on 01793 605631 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cheques can be made out to Great Western Hospital and sent to Fundraising Manager, Fundraising Department, Trust HQ, Floor 2, Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN3 6BB.
