Hard-working youngsters are good citizens

YOUNGSTERS who took part in this year’s National Citizen Scheme celebrated at a graduation ceremony on Thursdaynight.
The 16 and 17-year-olds received a certificate after taking part in a four-week personal development scheme where they learned about teamwork and contributing to their communities.
At New College, the group, who had never met each other before, split into five teams who all took on different challenges to help raise money for local charities, such as sleeping out overnight in cardboard boxes for the Great Western Hospital’s special care baby unit, trekking from Swindon to Cirencester and feeding 16 people on £20 for three days.
NCS is a Government initiative which aims to build confidence, team-working skills.
While youngsters at New College celebrated their achievements, others at Swindon College were also graduating from this year’s scheme.
