Members of the Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust retraced the footsteps of noted artist WH Allen last week, as they visited his home town in Hampshire.
The group, numbering 47, journeyed from Bradford to the Allen Gallery in Alton on a Victorian steam train, to discover more about the noted watercolourist who spent time in the Bradford area.
Organiser Michael O’Connell said: “We took a journey through lovely countryside to New Alresford, which is a delightful Georgian town, to visit the WH Allen Gallery.
“Then we took a coach to the Jane Austen museum in Chawton, which is the house where she wrote Pride and Prejudice.
“I was in Bradford when the Orient Express came thundering past, and I thought it would be great to try and do something like that, so I organised the train to take us there, which everyone seemed to enjoy.”
The Trust’s next meeting is on October 17, when Veronica Phaw will discuss her trip to the South Pole.
