Trowbridge church member to stage capital busking effort

Heather Skull from Trowbridge, who works for the international church-based charity Us, will be busking solo as part of a fundraising event at St Pancras on Wednesday.
It’s part of the charity’s challenge to people in the UK to use their gifts and talents to fundraise to benefit both local and global communities.
Staff from the London-based charity have formed a choir and will be busking at St Pancras International railway station during the morning and evening rush hour respectively, while Heather, a member of the Zion Baptist Church, will busk solo at the station.
Us works with churches around the world to help transform lives through better health and education, more food security, safety for children, better training for leaders, justice for all, an end to gender-based violence and freedom to worship.
As part of the Us Harvest appeal this year, the charity is asking people to look at what they’re good at and see how those gifts might be used to make a difference locally and across the world through raising money to be split 50-50 between Us and a cause closer to home.
Fundraising co-ordinator Katharine Hamilton said: ‘We asked people to look at their own gifts and make use of them. So it seems only fair that we should take up the challenge also.’ ‘We have a number of good singers in the Us office and putting together a choir seemed like a great challenge for Us.’ Heather said: ‘When my boss Katharine came to me and said, “Heather, we want to put a choir together for Bring What You Have and I’d really like you to do some solos, I was a bit taken aback.”’ “But it’s a challenge I couldn’t really ignore. I’m looking forward to it although it’s also quite scary thinking about that moment when I shall step up to the microphone and be the lone voice ringing out across the station concourse.”
The charity previously ran a shoe-shining event at St Pancras station.
Donations can be made to the charity when the choir is singing at the station and through justgiving.com/bringwhatyouhave, or via mobile – text BWYH99 £3 to 70070 to sponsor Us.
