A TEACHING assistant will swap her onesie for hiking gear when she treks through the Grand Canyon in aid of children’s charities.
A onesie party was just one of the fundraising events organised by mother-of-two Claire Sparrowhawk, 32, of Upper Minety, to raise money for the trip in a year’s time. The event was at the Vale of the White Horse Inn, Minety last week, raising more than £200.
Mrs Sparrowhawk, who is also a governor at Minety Primary School, said: “I like wearing a onesie and people said it was their idea of heaven to go to the pub in a onesie and eat a chip butty.
“The Grand Canyon trek is not for the faint hearted; it’s basic hygiene, basic food, and sleeping in a two-man tent under the stars with scorpions.
“What really worries me though is the flight; I hate flying, and leaving my children will be very hard.”
Money raised from the trip itself will go to the Make a Wish Foundation, Ray of Sunshine and Starlight. Mrs Sparrowhawk can be sponsored at www.justgiving.com/ Claire-Sparrowhawk
