Swing fun joy thanks to kind donors
A SEVEN-year-old disabled boy was able to enjoy a day of fun playing on his new swing this weekend thanks to a generous one-off donation from an east Swindon charity shop.
Joshua Randsom was left brain damaged following an accident when he was younger, causing hypoxic injuries which limited the oxygen supply to his body.
He spends the week at a special home where he can receive professional care for his illness and at weekends he returns to his dad’s home on Radstock Avenue for some quality family time.
But thanks to a present from Walcot Charity Shop, Joshua will now be able to play on the purpose-built swing which allows his wheelchair to be attached to it.
His father David Randsom said he was blown away by the generosity of the charity shop, which spent nearly £1,000 on goods for Joshua. The swing cost around £600 and a baby-walker was also purchased at a price of approximately £250.
“I can’t believe there are people out there like that,” said David, 47.
“They came to me and asked me what I thought Josh would like and then they have gone away and made it happen.
“I want them to know how thankful I am for their help. Josh loves going on the swings but since his accident it has been a real struggle to get him on them.
“I want everybody to know the good work this charity shop does.”
He appealed to people to go down and use the shop, which is part of Walcot Library, to ensure it can keep on carrying out its good work.
“It is important for people to know about the work they do there,” said David.
“This is going to really benefit Josh and will allow him to spend more time doing the things he enjoys.”
He said before the gifts were purchased members of the charity sat down with David and let him choose from a number of options.
“They were very friendly and helpful,” said David.
“I pointed out the swing and I said this was something Josh would use and they said ok we will get that for him then.”
The charity picks a number of local causes to support throughout the year. And for its efforts in 2011 staff at the organisation was honoured in the Pride Of Swindon awards.
