Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service are still investigating the cause of a fire at a Bradford on Avon property today.

A man suffered burns to his head and smoke inhalation after trying to save his car from his blazing garage in Leigh Road, Bradford on Avon.

Four fire crews from Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Corsham and Melksham were called to the fire at 11.30am, as well as an Incident Command Unit from Devizes.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose jets and one main jet and put the fire out in one hour, preventing it from spreading the house attached to the garage.

The man was treated at the scene and taken to Royal United Hospital, Bath by land ambulance.

It is believed one car was rescued but another car and the garage were destroyed by the fire.

A Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We’re very comfortable it was accidental, though we can’t be precise on exactly what caused it yet as there is some asbestos residue in the garage hampering the investigation.

“The cause remains under investigation, and probably will remain so for another couple of days.”
