Frank Bruno talking life for MIND
HEAVYWEIGHT boxer Frank Bruno said he won’t be pulling any punches when he speaks about his life at a Swindon event next month.
The former world heavyweight boxing champion will be speaking about his life and answering questions from the audience at a sporting dinner on November 30.
Frank, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003, has been sectioned three times and spent time in a psychiatric hospital last year.
“I will be talking about my life right from the beginning until now,” said Frank, who is now 51.
“It will be a good night, I enjoy talking about my life. People can ask me their own questions. I’m not shy and they can ask anything they want.
“The evening is for a good cause and a good charity. It’s a good reason for a night out.”
Frank became WBC heavyweight champion in 1995, but lost his first defence, against Mike Tyson, just six months later.
He remains one of Britain’s most loved sporting heroes and said he is looking forward to the event at the end of November.
MIND provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
The fundraiser is being organised by Aaron Webb and Sean Harper.
Aaron, of Stratton, said:” We are raising money for MIND because it helps people who are dealing with depression, which Frank has been through. One of Sean’s family members has had depression too so it is a cause close to his heart.
The night starts at 7pm and will include a bucks fizz reception, two course dinner and table magic from magician Kris Singh, entertainment from a comedian, and a charity auction of sporting memorabilia too.
“It will be a good night. There will be food and drink and an insight into a sporting star’s life,” said Aaron.
For tickets, which can be bought individually or discounted for tables of 10, phone Aaron on 07825180733.
The evening is expected to last until about 11pm.
Tickets can also be bought at the Forum in the Brunel Shopping Centre or The Khyber restaurant in the town centre.
