Expansion for funeral company

ONE of the few family firms of funeral directors left in Wiltshire is opening up in premises in Devizes.
D J Bewley’s, which already has offices in Melksham and Trowbridge, has applied for planning permission for change of use and minor alterations at a former dental surgery at 64 New Park Street.
But the present managing director, Patrik Bewley, said it is not the company’s first presence in the town.
He said: “My late father, Dennis, took over E Raddon and Sons in Sidmouth Street but that closed a few years ago. So we are coming back to Devizes and we hope our friendly family service will appeal to local people.”
D J Bewley’s was founded in 1970 by Mr Bewley Senior and Patrik took over on his father’s death in 1997.
His son Ryan has joined the business and there is a fourth generation waiting in the wings.
Patrik Bewley said: “Ryan has just had a son so there is a ready-made business for him when he is old enough.”
Mr Bewley said the company plans to open for business as soon as possible after planning permission is granted.
