Devizes butchers Walter Rose and Son has been voted the Butcher’s Shop of the Year in the Taste of the West 2014 Awards.
The family-run butchery business previously picked up a Taste of the West gold award for its Devizes shop and a silver award for the Trowbridge branch of the business – but this week it was voted best butcher’s shop in the six counties of the South West region.
“We’re absolutely over the moon with this,” said partner Jack Cook.
“To hear the judges describe our shop as the best shop he had ever been in was just incredible.”
Judges in the competition, which is the UK’s largest regional food sector contest, praised Walter Rose and Son for supplying great products and said the staff were “amazing”.
Owner Steve Cook said it was a terrific honour to have won the award against some impressive opposition from across the South West.
He said: “It takes years of hard work and skill to source and choose the right meat for our customers, and for that to be recognised and rewarded in such a high profile way gives us a real sense of achievement.”
