Camilla to visit Marlborough tomorrow for charity concert
The Duchess of Cornwall will be guest of honour at a fundraising concert in aid of Youth Action Wiltshire in the chapel at Marlborough College tomorrow.
The concert, entitled Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices – the Life of George Frideric Handel, aims to raise around £15,000 for the charity that works with young people in the county.
Camilla is patron of Community First Wiltshire, of which Youth Action Wiltshire (YAW) is part, and on the evening she will meet staff and trustees from the charity as well as young carers, sponsors and musicians.
Among those performing are musicians from the Bath Philharmonia, London Trumpet Choir, Bath Chamber Choir, A Handful of Singers, with trumpet soloists David Blackadder, soprano Ruby Hughes, countertenor Christopher Lowrey and bassist George Humphreys.
The concert will feature music and words celebrating the life of the prodigious composer and will be hosted by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, William Wyldbore-Smith, who is on the YAW committee.
He said: “It is a great honour to have Her Royal Highness with us on this occasion.
“We are extremely grateful for her continued interest in and support for the charity and especially for her support for this fundraising event.
“A committee of trustees, led by Ginnie Keen and James Layton, along with staff from YAW, the Community Foundat-ion, and Kate Stephens and others at Marlborough College, have pulled out all the stops to get this event off the ground.
“We are also very grateful to Jonathan Leigh, the Master of Marlborough College, for allowing us to hold the concert in this wonderful chapel.
“YAW does inspiring work with young people in Wiltshire, particularly those who are finding it difficult to engage.
“Project Inspire, Wiltshire Young Carers and the other projects run by the charity all help young people to develop their confidence, to have more fulfilled lives and to achieve their potential.”
