Hilmarton Christmas festival will be filled by arty angels

Preparations are already underway for a Christmas angel festival at St Laurence Church in Hilmarton.
An angel-making workshop for children under 14 will be held at the Hilmarton Church Hall on Saturday, November 16, from 10am to 11.30am.
Adults with good eyesight and nimble fingers can also join organiser Elaine Leighton at her home to make a beaded angel on Thursday, November 21, from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Mrs Leighton, who is part of the parochial council, said the angel festival would follow on from a successful nativity festival held at the church a few years ago.
The church council also needs villagers from the Hilmarton area to lend their angels for the display in the church from December 6-8.
Mrs Leighton said: “We really need as many as we can get. Some will probably stay in church for Christmas, but some people will want to take them home to have in their home at Christmas.
“If we open the church on Friday or Saturday afternoon with something like that in there, and refreshments, we get a lot of people.”
The angel festival will coincide with a concert at St Laurence on December 7 at 7.30pm when the Cantemus choir from Newbury will perform. The children’s session will cost £8 and the adult session will cost £5. Prices include refreshments, tuition and all the materials needed.
