Volunteers helped give the churchyard at Melksham’s St Michael and All Angels Church a tidy-up on Saturday.

And the event proved a fruitful exercise with a passport and a woman's handbag containing a driving licence being handed into the police.

Around 40 people came forward to lend a hand in the Church Yard Challenge organised by the church and Melksham Town Council.

Among the items discovered were a black bag containing bank cards and a Turkish passport, along with a woman’s handbag with the driving licence.

The bags and their contents are with Wiltshire Police, and anyone who believes they are their possessions and wishes to claim the bags can call the police on 101.

Of the tidy-up, the Rev Barry Blackford said: “It was nice to see so many people from the town coming together.”
