A Christmas show in memory of two Devizes women will raise money for Dorothy House Hospice.

The Invitation Theatre Company (or TITCO), based in Devizes, is holding the show on December 19 at the Bear Hotel, Devizes, at 7.30pm in memory of Helen Straker and Marilyn Greenwood, who both died of cancer this year.

Jemma Brown, of TITCO, said: “Every penny raised will go to Dorothy House and we hope to raise about £800.

“It is set to be lovely. We have a fantastic cast and will present a real mixture of music and laughter.

“Bel Coro, the Devizes Eisteddfod winners, will join us. They are super special.

“We’re doing this show because we loved Helen and Marilyn and to be able to raise money for the hospice, who helped them when they were so ill, will be an honour.

“We know Helen from performing at The Bear Hotel. She loved our shows.

“Marilyn was part of the original TITCO in the 1970s.”

The Bear Hotel, owned by Mrs Straker’s husband, Gordon, is donating the ballroom for the show. Tickets are £12 to include a glass of mulled wine and mince pies available from the hotel on 01380 722444.

Mrs Straker, 62, of Potterne Wick, was a founding member of Devizes Friends group of the hospice and raised thousands of pounds for it.

Mrs Greenwood, 66, of Avon Road, was involved in amateur dramatics. Her poetry is to be made into a book and sold for the hospice.
