A male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a broken collar bone and pelvic injuries after a crash on the A3102 at the Hilmarton to Compton Bassett junction last week.

The man, believed to be in his forties, was driving a red Honda motorcycle along Swindon Road on Friday, December 6, just after 8.30am when he was in collision with a red Ford Focus.

Police arrived shortly after to find first responders and paramedics attending to the man, who was lying in a nearby ditch.

Due to the seriousness of his injuries an air ambulance also arrived at the scene, landing in a nearby field, and specialist traffic officers requested a full road closure.

The road was closed for over an hour, with police working to divert traffic, and the man was taken to Swindon’s Great Western Hospital by a conventional ambulance.

The female driver was uninjured but was badly shaken up by the crash and police are still investigating to find out the cause

Calne PCSO Mark Cook, who attended the scene, said: “At this stage I am unsure for the reason of this collision, but I would urge all drivers on the early morning roads to be mindful of the weather, visibility and road surface conditions during these winter months.

“Many thanks to all passing motorists for their patience while emergency crews worked and the road closures were in place.

"Our thanks also go out to the local residents who supplied hot drinks to the emergency crew on a very cold morning.”
