Residents frustrated as the lights go out in Old Town

RESIDENTS in Old Town were left frustrated after their electricity was switched off without any prior notice.

Southern Electric was forced to disconnect people on Evelyn Street during the afternoon yesterday after the mains blew out. It is believed this was caused by a rat biting through a pipe.

George Hall, 91, of Evelyn Street, said his fridge went out and he was unable to turn on his television.

He said: “I’ve had no electrics at all. I’ve felt really lousy. I was going to cook some chops but I haven’t been able to. We weren’t told this was going to be going on.

Valeria Higgs, 74, said she kept blocks of ice in the freezer to use on her painful back.

“I’ve only used one today so I hope the rest don’t all melt,” said Valeria.

“It’s annoying, they normally push something through your door if they are going to switch the electricity off.”

A workman at the scene said: “We had to disconnect it so we could carry out repairs. It should only take us a couple of hours.”

Well, once upon a time that used to be called a power cut, caused by a rat chewing a cable, your not likely to get notice of such an incident are you?
Heavens above what would happen if it were to rain and it wasn't forcast?

So, people who lived through the war are appalled when the electricity goes out, *completely unavoidably*, for a couple of hours of an afternoon? Seriously?!

Anyway, I thought all pensioners had been left destitute by all the government 'cuts' and could only either afford to ear OR to heat their homes? But there's old Georgey merrily tucking into chops of a Monday evening!

It would also take a block of ice around 10 hours to melt in a freezer that had been turned off. It's a shame the Adver didn't include in this report the time the electricity was back on and how long these people had *actually* been without it.

FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS.

Well done, you scoured my posts and found a typo.

You really are a piece of work - pretending that I have multiple logins (which I don't) when you've openly admitted that you do.

I think you'll find there's a bit more than "a typo"
For someone who thinks he's the grammar police you're not very observant.

Do remind the audience of when I admitted (or denied) anything.

Despite never having commented much here I do follow the debates and I have seen some rather odd patterns to the thumbs up and down voting. Particularly when some posts disagree with the opinions of certain posters.

Thumbs-up here for your post.

Er, I posted it at 4am, your post was at 7:11am - hardly surprise at all that my post received 4 thumbs up in a four hour period.

Or had you not noticed that plenty of people are sick to death of your inane insults and childish little snipes?

Stick around a while, you will find that Empty Car Park is a user of multiple logins here, while making false allegations that others do so, and never contributes anything of worth, merely just the same, tired and juvenile snipes.

He also posts under the name I Too Could Do That (plus several versions of that username) and any number of what he thinks are 'witty' puns of other contributors such as RobFM and Oliver Donachie.

Indeed, he seemingly ran an endless (and bizarrely obsessed) campaign against RobFM on this site and has tried to drive me off the site continually.

Thankfully, the silly little man is leaving Swindon soon, although he's already promised to keep up his pathetically childish vendetta against people he thinks he knows but actually doesn't. The man is quite insane.

Ah, yes, your hobbies. Let's remind ourselves about what 'sad' really looks like:
