CORSHAM Town Council has had its say on two major edge of town housing projects, rejecting a large development towards Chippenham, but welcoming new homes to the east.

At its planning meeting on Wednesday the council restated its previous opposition to the Hunters Moon development, which would see up to 450 homes and a new primary school built off Easton Lane.

In a submission to Wiltshire Council’s planning department, it cited fears over the loss of a green ‘buffer zone’ between the towns, saying: “The application would be detrimental to Corsham and a drain on our limited resources.”

It also drew attention to the site’s lack of inclusion in Wiltshire Council’s core strategy for development.

At the same meeting the council also approved plans by Hannick Homes for a 1.2 hectare development south of Bradford Road, which would see up to 88 homes built, including affordable housing.

It would also include an area to the south which will be earmarked for commercial development.

The council’s submission said: “It was felt the additional employment land provided would benefit the immediate community, and that the broad and thorough consultation with both the council and the public had led to positive amendments to the proposal.”

Both applications will now be considered by Wiltshire Council for final approval.
