A stretch of the M4 between junction 16 and 17 westbound was closed this morning following a crash involving a police vehicle.

The incident took place shortly before 10.45am close to the Dauntsey bridge on the M4 and involved a Wiltshire Police vehicle and an Audi A3.

The police vehicle was stationary on the hard shoulder when the collision occurred.

A police officer was extracted from the vehicle by the fire service and taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon via land ambulance with shoulder injuries.

The male driver of the Audi and a child passenger were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Two lanes of the M4 were re-opened shortly after 11.30am and the road was fully reopened just before 12.30pm.

The Serious Collision Investigation Team at Wiltshire Police are now investigating the incident.
