A Corsham printing firm has been recognised as the pick of the crop after it received a coveted award for its commitment to the environment.

Park Lane Press received the Green Apple Award from environmental group The Green Organisation, which works to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities, in a ceremony at the House of Commons before Christmas.

The company is on the Leafield Industrial Estate, and produces corporate brochures, calendars and stationery for charities and businesses.

Managing director Phil Sudwell said: “This is our 13th year of operating an environmental management system, and one of our most proactive in terms of reducing our carbon footprint.

“We have implemented a unique water reclamation system, and installed a rainwater-harvesting tank, resulting in water usage dropping over 30 per cent.

“With the recent addition of a new energy-efficient climate control system and a new press, we hope to see further environmental improvements throughout 2014.”

The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavours on a national and international basis.

Judges for the awards are drawn from the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
